Custom Prosthetic Services
Ocular (eye) prostheses
We offer a variety of different services for prosthetic eyes, including manufacturing of in-dwelling, scleral shells and conformers, express manufacture service and routine polishing and review. We use traditional techniques including hand-painting, and quality materials to produce highly aesthetic results that try to replicate your other eye as closely as possible. Alternatively, you can allow your imagination to run wild and emphasise your visual difference with a prosthesis with different coloured iris, or even all-over colour with no iris at all. We can also offer duplicate patterns for existing or new prothesis of different colours, the cost of which can be discussed on consultation.

Orbital
An orbital prosthesis is a silicone prosthesis that replaces the missing structures of the orbit, including the eye, eyelids and surrounding bony and soft tissue structures. It can also have eyebrows and eyelashes incorporated where needed. Orbital prosthetics do not move easily and behind glasses give a very lifelike appearance. The prosthesis can be held in place by adhesives, spectacles, implants or a combination.

Auricular
Congenital ear deformity is relatively common, as are trauma and surgical removal of the ear. Whilst plastic reconstruction using the patient's own rib cartilage is possible, it has its limitations, and can sometimes fail or have sub-optimal aesthetic outcomes. An alternative to plastic reconstruction, and therefore a popular choice for children, is a complete or partial prosthetic ear made from skin-like silicone. It can mimic the other side and surrounding tissue, and with regards to dealing with children, can be remade as the child grows. Each prosthesis is designed uniquely to restore balance and symmetry as we will employ digital scanning and design techniques to mirror the contralateral ear. If no ears are present, the ears of a sibling, relative, or friend (whose ears you like) can be used as templates for the design. The finished prosthesis can be held in place by sleeving, adhesives, implants or a combination.
Nasal
Nasal prostheses are provided to restore contour and improve function for people that have experience issues such as pitted scarring, right up to partial or total loss of their nose. Rhinectomy (removal of the nose) resulting from cancer, or as a result of burns, necrosis, trauma or other conditions can be distressing, resulting in altered facial profile and impacting of self-esteem. Whilst this can sometimes be surgically restored, it can take several operations and revisions. Furthermore, reconstruction may not be possible where there has been radiotherapy owing to an impacted blood supply to the area. Additionally, a reconstruction may hinder early detection of recurrences of cancer. Silicone nasal prostheses can mask visual differences of the nose and can also be removed regularly for cleaning and assessment of the underlying area. The prosthesis can be retained by, adhesive, anatomical retention, glasses, implants or a combination.

Digits (Fingers and toes) and partial hand and feet
Silicone digit prostheses serve purely as an aesthetic restoration, masking an amputation of either a finger or a toe. Whilst they can offer some form of support for neighbouring digits, it is unlikely that they will offer much function as they are fixed in on position. The prosthesis is removable and manufactured by first trying a sleeve for tightness, and then producing a prosthesis using the sleeve of appropriate tightness as a guide for fit. We may use digital scanning and design protocols to mirror the size and shape of your contralateral hand/foot to create a matching realistic result. Please see below under 'Movable Digits' for a more functional though less aesthetically realistic alternative.
Breast and Nipple Prostheses
Custom breast prostheses made using digital scaning techniques, printed prototpying, custom colour matching and hand finishing. We offer prostheses that can be designed to whatever specification you desire: Hollow, foam-filled or gel-filled breast prostheses depending on your preference. Our prostheses will be sure to mirror the size and shape of your existing breast if you have had single mastectomy, or we can work closely with you to design new breast prostheses from scratch if you have had a double mastectomy. All our prostheses are made to fit perfectly to your unique contour, offering enahnced comfort and aesthetic outcomes compared to stock prostheses.
Nipple prostheses can make the world of difference in boosting confidence and finishing off the appearance of a reconstructed breast. We use ultra soft medical silicone that can be used with or without adhesive to replicate the size, shape and colours of a natural nipple. We offer a 'while you wait' service, meaning within as little as a couple of hours you could be walking away with your finished custom-made prostheses. Body Prostheses
We offer a skin-like silicone contour prostheses for areas of scarring or abnormal contour, for example for the limbs, torso, forehead, cheeks, and more. Please see us for a consultation to discuss prosthetic options, potential outcomes and to receive a quote.
3D printed biomechanical fingers
For those not interested in a purely aesthetic prosthesis for their finger(s), we are able to offer novel made-to-measure 3D-printed movable digits; the design of which will vary depending on patient requirements and preferences. Made from top quality high strength PLA for the rigid moving parts and and tested skin-safe flexible TPU for flexible components, 3D printed fingers can restore a certain degree of dexterity and support for neighbouring fingers following digit amputation. This type of prosthesis is offered in a range of colours, and uses digital scanning to copy your contralateral fingertip for size and shape comparison. Upgrade your prosthesis with a realistic silicone finger tip (depending on prosthetic type) or sleeve at extra cost. Please see the "Prices" page for more details, or book a consultation to discuss the prosthetic types we can offer you.
Pressure therapy for keloid scars (splinting)
Keloid scars are scars that develop into a mushroom-like growth due to an adverse healing response to trauma. They can not only be unsightly, but also itchy and uncomfortable. We offer keloid splinting for ear keloids. This involves wearing an acrylic clip over the scar, which puts pressure on either by means of magnets or screws depending on the size, shape and location of the scar on the ear. Good patient compliance is key to success with this treatment, with near continuous wear required for dynamic therapy (active reduction of keloid size over time using a splint with pressure). Regular reviews up to every 6 weeks are required for adjustment (increasing pressure) as the keloid shrinks, and treatment may last up to a year. Whether you simply require a splint for maintenance of ear contour following surgical removal of a keloid, or whether require more dynamic splinting therapy to reduce an active keloid, feel free to book a consultation to see what we can do for you, and what sort of regimen might benefit you.
Booking Appointments- what should I do?
On our appointment booking page, we have a whole host of appointment types able to be booked online for your convenience. We ask that all new patients please attend for an initial consultation where we can assess your current situation and needs, and discuss options and treatment protocols. If you are already having treatment with us and have not booked your appointment on clinic at the end of your last appointment, please refer to your treatment timeline (provided to you at your initial consultation) to determine which type of appointment you are due to have next. If you are still unsure, please contact us to ask before booking.
Please note: our policy for cancellations and no shows states that cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment start time will be billed at 30% for individually costed appointments, or £55 per hour if the appointment involves a clinical manufacturing or fit stage. If there are extenuating circumstances this charge may be waived. No shows will be billed at 50% for individually costed appointments, or £70 per hour if the appointment involves a clinical manufacturing or fit stage. If you are unable to make it or are running late, please let us know so that we know not to, or else when to expect you.
An innovative workflow with an emphasis on environmentally conscious materials and techniques.
S.E.E. prosthetics is working to reduce the environmental impact of prosthesis manufacture on our planet. We are working to ensure the disposable elements of our manufacturing process (such as 3D-printed models, impression trays and moulds, which are ordinarily neither biodegradable nor recyclable), are not only biocompatible, but biodegradable. We are continually working to reduce waste by offering to store moulds for patients after fitting, which in turn aims to reward returning clients with reduced cost and faster replica remakes.
