An overview of facial prosthetics

Facial prosthetics can include a variety of different prosthetic devices, from mid-face prosthesis to prosthetic eyes. A person may be missing a part of their face due to congenital anomaly, trauma or cancer, and this can results in feelings of insecurity and a lack of confidence, especially is social situations. A facial prosthetic is an excellent way for an individual to regain control of their life, increase their confidence and interact socially day-to-day.

A facial prosthesis s meant to replace a missing or malformed part of the face, be it eyes, nose or other surrounding soft and hard structures that are missing. At South East Essex Prosthetics we aim to produce the most realistic result possible to fit a patient’s individual requirements. Our facial prosthetics can incorporate facial hair, eyelashes and eye brows as needed, and can be attached to the face by means of prosthetic adhesives, anatomical attachment (using existing anatomy to hold in place where undercuts are present), implants, or a combination, depending on the individual’s presentation.
